Attracting investments from renowned businessmen such as Billionaire Entrepreneur Elon Musk will significantly contribute to the country\u2019s economic development and the launch of such a project in Sri Lanka would signal to the world that the Island Nation is now open for business, potentially attracting other top millionaire entrepreneurs to invest in Sri Lanka, Senior Adviser to the President on Climate Change, Ruwan Wijewardene said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the 10th World Water Forum held in Bali, Indonesia, from the 18th to the 20th of May, President Ranil Wickremesinghe and his delegation held a special meeting with Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, where they discussed launching the \u201cStarlink\u201d project in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Elon Musk had informed that the project would require Sri Lanka President\u2019s support. In responding President Wickremesinghe assured him of full support to initiate the project in Sri Lanka. Musk also informed that he plans to visit Sri Lanka at the end of this year to kick off the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Joining a project like \u201cStarlink\u201d can provide internet facilities to underserved areas of the country without any issues. This initiative will also support the growth of various economic sectors, including tourism. President Ranil Wickremesinghe is focused on providing affordable internet access to school students and the general public through easy payment methods,” Wijewardene noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President plans to hold further discussions with SpaceX. The \u201cStarlink\u201d project has now expanded to 99 countries, including the Maldives and Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“In Sri Lankan politics, it is common to protest against foreign investments. Successful initiatives often face criticism and political interference. However, I believe the public will support inviting renowned businessmen to invest in the country,” Wijewardene went on to say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
