He said, \u201cSri Lanka has naturally received many good opportunities in this sector due to the geographical location of our country and we will make our maximum contribution by providing the necessary facilities for this industry, which earns a large amount of foreign exchange and creates many indirect employment opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Handunnetti further stated that his ministry\u2019s objective is to encourage the tourism industry and make Sri Lanka an event management hub. The event management industry occupies a prominent place among the new industry sectors identified by the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development and is a huge industry sector with a value of Rs. 60 billion last year (2025).With this initiative the industry is expected to reach Rs 250 billion by 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the aim of further developing this industry sector and promoting their industry and market to entrepreneurs in the sector, the \u201cSri Lanka Events Calendar\u201d has been prepared by the Event Management Advisory Board under the guidance of the Ministry of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development, including all events held in Sri Lanka. This \u201cSri Lanka Events Calendar\u201d will act as the official guide to leading local and international events held in the country, including cultural festivals, sports, high-level meetings and conferences, exhibitions, and more, in conjunction with the global tourism industry. Speaking at the landmark event, Saliya Weerasekera, President of the Management Association (EMA), hailed the day as a historic turning point for the industry. \u201cHaving weathered years of challenges as a united family, we are proud to launch two initiatives that will redefine our future,\u201d Weerasekera stated. He announced the official Sri Lanka Event Calendar, to showcase the nation\u2019s vibrant culture to the world, and the Diploma in International Event Management and Marketing Studies; a premier qualification that bridges the gap between academic theory and hands-on industry experience through EMA member companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, To meet the growing demand for specialized expertise in the global events sector, the EMA, in collaboration with Saegis Campus and Pearson UK, announced the launch of the Diploma in International Event Management & Marketing Studies. This strategic partnership was spearheaded by the leadership of Saegis Campus, including Bandara Dissanayake, Chairman, Saegis Campus and Major General Milinda Peiris (Retired),Vice Chancellor & CEO. During the ceremony, the official Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was handed over, and enrollment letters were presented to the first six students of the diploma program. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development Chathuranga Abeysinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development Thilaka Jayasundara, Secretary to the Ministry of Digital Economy Waruna Sri Dhanapala and officials<\/p>\n\n\n\n
