The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) recorded a landmark trading session yesterday (06), with the daily turnover record surging past the Rs. 12 billion mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By the close of trading, the market saw a total turnover of Rs. 12.23 billion. This represents the highest daily turnover recorded since January 8, 2026, when the market reached a turnover of Rs. 12.3 billion. This exceptional performance follows a strong momentum established yesterday (05), which saw a turnover exceeding Rs. 8 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The massive turnover was primarily driven by a major transfer of ownership in Commercial Credit and Finance PLC. A crossing involving 89.78 million shares of the company was executed, contributing Rs. 9.02 billion to the day’s turnover. When including regular market transactions worth Rs. 351 million, the total turnover for Commercial Credit for the day reached Rs. 9.37 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The seller in this significant transaction was Group Lease Holdings PTE LTD, a foreign entity currently undergoing liquidation. As of June 30, 2026, the company held 95.39 million shares, representing a 29.99% stake in Commercial Credit. Reports indicate that this leading stake was purchased by a group of local investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to the Commercial Credit activity, another notable crossing was recorded for United Motors Lanka PLC, valued at Rs. 1.02 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Market indices also performed strongly yesterday. The All Share Price Index (ASPI) rose by 102.73 points to close at 21,269.67. Meanwhile, the S&P SL20 index saw an increase of 26.41 points, ending the session at 5,971.50.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
