Tourism Malaysia Chennai (South India and Sri Lanka), in partnership with the High Commission of Malaysia in Colombo, organised the ‘Wonders of Malaysia Showcase 2026’, at Hotel Kingsbury, Colombo.
The event, held in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026 (VMY2026), brought together more than 60 leading travel agents, airline representatives and media partners from Sri Lanka to strengthen tourism collaboration and promote Malaysia’s diverse tourism offerings.
The event was officiated by Badli Hisham Adam, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, together with Hishamuddin Mustafa, Director of Tourism Malaysia Chennai (South India & Sri Lanka).
In his welcome address, Hishamuddin Mustafa reaffirmed Tourism Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Sri Lankan travel trade in preparation for Visit Malaysia 2026. He highlighted Malaysia’s evolving tourism landscape, encouraging industry partners to expand their offerings beyond the traditional destinations to include the unique experiences of Sabah and Sarawak, featuring world-class nature, adventure, culture and eco-tourism attractions.
He also noted that Malaysia and Sri Lanka are connected by 35 weekly flights with a total capacity of 5,632 seats, providing convenient access for travellers while positioning Malaysia as an ideal gateway to Southeast Asia. From January to May 2026, Malaysia welcomed 24,845 visitors from Sri Lanka, reflecting the market’s continued importance. Tourism Malaysia is confident that stronger trade partnerships, enhanced product knowledge, and new travel experiences will contribute to even greater visitor growth in the coming months. Officiating the event, Badli Hisham Adam underscored the warm and longstanding bilateral relations between Malaysia and Sri Lanka and highlighted tourism as a key driver of economic cooperation and people-to-people connectivity. He encouraged both countries to continue strengthening tourism partnerships and exploring new opportunities for mutual growth.
The showcase featured destination presentations and business networking sessions with Malaysian tourism partners, including Wyndham Ion Majestic, Lotus Desaru, Key Term Holidays representing Sabah Tourism Board and Asian Overland representing The PULSE Group (Putrajaya Leisures & Services Group). The participating organisations introduced a wide range of products and experiences, from luxury accommodation and family attractions to nature, adventure, wellness and experiential tourism, offering Sri Lankan travel professionals fresh opportunities to develop innovative Malaysia travel packages.
Tourism Malaysia Chennai extends its sincere appreciation to the High Commission of Malaysia in Colombo, the participating Malaysian tourism partners, airline partners, members of the travel trade, and the media for their invaluable support in making the event a success. The Wonders of Malaysia Showcase 2026 reflects Tourism Malaysia’s continued commitment to working closely with the Sri Lankan tourism industry to drive visitor arrivals and ensure the success of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VMY2026).
