The Trade Finance Association of Bankers (TFAB) hosted its annual Public Seminar on June 20, at the Hilton Colombo Residences, drawing a large gathering of banking professionals, trade experts and corporate executives.

Focused on the timely theme, ‘How Supply Chain Adapts to Disruptive Trade Corridors’, the seminar provided deep insights into navigating current global supply chain disruptions, regulatory evolutions and risk mitigation strategies in international trade.

The event was organised by the Education Committee of TFAB highlights a commitment to ongoing professional development. This continuous knowledge-sharing initiative is designed to empower members, foster skill development, and keep the association’s community aligned with industry standards.

The full-day event featured comprehensive technical sessions and an interactive panel discussion led by prominent industry leaders.

The seminar commenced with a welcome address by TFAB President Rajaratnam Naguleswaran, followed by an impactful keynote address by Damith Pallewatte Managing Director/CEO of Hatton National Bank PLC.

Additional Director General of Customs – Corporate Achala Chandrasekare unpacked new customs initiatives designed to streamline processes, enhance trade facilitation, and ease operational bottlenecks for Sri Lankan traders.

MAC Holdings Private Limited Managing Director Andre Fernando shared strategic frameworks on how businesses can dynamically adapt their logistics and supply chains to survive shifting, disruptive global trade corridors.

Highlighting the financial safeguards of international commerce, Ainsley Jerome Alles Deputy Chairman/Managing Director of Senaratne Insurance Brokers Private Limited discussed the vital role of marine insurance as a business enabler.

The technical sessions concluded with a rigorous trade-related case study presented by Michael Peiris International Trade Consultant and Trainer, focusing on technical aspects, applicability of rules and reasonable care in trade finance compliance.

Moderated by Janath Ilangantileke Director/Chief Operating Officer of Deutsche Bank, Sri Lanka, the panel brought together the speakers to debate real-world solutions, answer audience questions, and deliberate on the future resilience of Sri Lanka’s trade ecosystem.

The event concluded with highly interactive networking sessions, leaving attendees with actionable strategies to safeguard their international trade portfolios against ongoing global disruptions.
