Spera has unveiled Spera Humanoid Prototype One — South Asia’s first full-scale bipedal security humanoid robot, designed entirely from scratch.
Built from the ground up by local engineering talent, this breakthrough marks Spera’s ninth anniversary.
It also positions Sri Lanka as an emerging player in the global US$5 trillion humanoid robotics market.
Designed for high-risk operational environments, the platform is engineered locally to serve commercial security applications globally.
The achievement is the result of years of relentless effort led by Spera Founder and CEO Sahan Yapa, a self-taught engineer who began building software and electronics in early childhood.
Facing failed prototypes and financial constraints — without major external capital — Yapa bootstrapped the venture by first building a successful software company offering blockchain, Industry 4.0, and emerging tech solutions. He then reinvested those earnings into robotics research.
The team’s functional platform has already drawn interest from international commercial markets.
Following Prototype One, Spera now plans to scale toward commercial deployment and introduce its next-generation model, Spera 2.0 — proving that world-class robotics can emerge outside traditional global tech hubs.
