India has agreed to provide Sri Lanka an additional US$ 500 million as financial assistance to purchase fuel. Sri Lanka earlier obtained a credit line from India which was allocated to buy various types of fuel.

The Foreign Minister Prof. G.L Peiris has said that IMF assistance will take about six months to come, and the country needs to find funds to purchase essential items.
